1. 1918 - Following First World War, Montenegro becomes part of Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes, which is later known as Yugoslavia.


2. In 1992  Montenegro is declared as an ecological state and the only of such kind in the world.


3.  National park Biogradska gora , one of two rainforest in Europe, it extends to 5.400 hectares and it located between 832 to  1.116 meters altitude.


4. The river Bojana is the only one in the world that due to the configuration of the terrain flows upstream and downstream.



5. Montenegro is one of founder Red cross and also the first country which introduced the transport of mail by car.


6. Tara canyon is the deepest canyon in Europe ( 1.333m ) and the second in the world. There is one more canyon in Montenegro – Nevidio which stands out in its beauty. The first exploration of the canyon was in the middle of the last century.


7. Skadar lake is a true geographical phenomenon, it has 40 islands, more than half of bird species in the world can be seen here. It's truly a birdwatchers paradise.


8. Montenegrian coast is one of the sunniest in the Europe. Ulcinj is the sunniest city on the Montenegrian coast. 

9. Becici beach  in Adriatic coast was declared in 1935 in Paris for the most beautiful beach in Europe.


10. Montenegro was at war with Japan for 102 years. Montenegro proclaimed the war to the Japanese empire in 1904. The peace agreement between Montenegro and Japan was signed  only in 2006.  


11. At the entrance to the Bar, there is an olive tree, between 2000 and 2500 years old, and is considered the oldest in the world.


12. The Shrubbery island in the Skadar lake is called the Montenegrian Alcatraz, because on it the King Nikola used the remains of the Turkish fortress as a prison for political opponents, and exclusively non-swimers.

A referendum on May 21 of 2006 saw 55.5 percent of the population vote for the latter's independence. As a result, Montenegro. Two days after Montenegro's independence declaration, Serbia affirmed itself as the independent sovereign successor to the State Union of Serbia and Montenegro.  You may say that the youngest country in Europe is Kosovo, which declared its independence from Serbia back in 2008. However, the independence of Kosovo is not recognized by many other countries such as Russia, Spain and Serbia, who claims that Kosovo is one of its provinces.
