Things to do in Brasov

1. Piața Sfatului
This square was the original market place since 1364. It also used for public humiliation and punishment, witches were punished here. Unfortunately, when we visited, a big stage was built in preparation for a big festival so we couldn't really appreciate all the beauty of the square. This is a good starting point for the walking tour of Brasov. If you book a free walking tour (I highly recommend it) or do it with a free app like we did, Piața Sfatului will be your starting point.

2. Ecaterina’s Gate
Catherine Gate is the only original city gate to have                                                                            survived from medieval times and it was built in 1559 for defensive purposes.

3. Strada Sforii or Rope street
Brasov is home to what is said to be one of the narrowest streets in Europe (L'Androuno, in France, Spreuerhofstraße, in Germany, and Parliament Street, in England, are narrower). The Rope Street (Strada Sforii) is approximately four feet wide and was initially used as an access route by firefighters. Been there, done that, got a photo. It should be a part of your walking tour in Brasov.

4. Brasov Citadel
Located on the hill in the middle of the town, Brasov Citadel visible basically from anywhere. It's a steep walk from the old town, so we took a taxi there and walk back. It seems they don't put much effort to make it a tourist attraction, the place is very run down. But views of the city are amazing and used for making panoramic pictures a lot. Otherwise, it's not much to see there, but it's free entry and nice way to spend an hour or so.

5. Tampa Cable Car
There is no better way to see the city than from the top. Tampa mountain almost entirely surrounded by the city of Braşov. Its elevation is 960 m, almost 400 m above the city. In most places, you can see Brasov Hollywood-esque style sigh, and you can get right to it. They are a few ways to get there, about 1-hour hike or take a Tampa Cable Car for 10 Leu (approx £3.50) return ticket. I love cable cars, and there was a no-brainer for me how I want to get there. 5 min walk from the top station, and there is a viewing platform with the most amazing views of the town.

6. Old Town Wall
At the foot of Tampa, along the SE side of the old fortress walls is a very romantic alley. Shaded by old trees, dotted with many benches. There are a few tennis and basketball grounds here, and kids play on the playground. There are five towers and bastions on this side of the wall. All have been restored, and three of them are open to the public, usually from 09:00-18:00. Entrance to all is free.

7. White & Black Towers
Two small towers keep watch over old Brasov long been a tourist attraction and offer amazing panoramic views of the city. Interesting enough, Black Tower not black, but white stone. Tower got its name after it got hit by lightning on July 23, 1559 and was caught in the fire. The few days we were there, there was a big House Party in the Black Tower.
8. Parc Aventura Brasov
Do you travel with kids or not, you should visit this outdoor adventure park by the lake with forest-lined ropes & zip line. Entrance for an adult is 60 Leu (about £12) and 50 Leu (£9.50) for kids for 3 hours. A mini-bungee jumping from a height of 16 meters and they have an amazing zip wire, 111 m long and 3 m high over the lake. Unfortunately, we couldn't experience it because of a rainstorm, and they closed it for safety reason. We were very disappointed, but hey, it's better than get struck by the lighting. Please make sure you have a photo ID with you. We all most didn't get in because of that, luckily I had a photo of my passport on my phone. They are many different difficulty levels from easy for small children to high for adrenaline lovers. I highly recommend this place, we had a fantastic time until the rain and thunder strike.
