Tips on travel to Slovakia
Before you decide to spend Christmas in Slovakia you need to know some significant facts:

1. Slovakian celebrates Christmas on 24th of December. 25th it's more like our Boxing day.

2. Christmas in Slovakia very much a family day. Every restaurant or bar, I mean, all of them is closed for 2 days, 24th and 25th of December. In the High Tatras, despite being a very popular ski resort with a lot of tourists from many countries, on 24th was only one restaurant open and not a very cheap one. All other was closed all day. We had to have dinner in our hotel on the 25th of December because nothing was open at all.

3. Be flexible and consider the weather.  We wanted a white Christmas, but 2 of the 3 days in Bratislava we had heavy rain. Rented car allow us to leave city earlier, and just one hour later we had lunch in Christmas wonderland, a small town on the way to Tatra Mountain, covered in snow like white fluffy blankets.

4. Don't take a bus or train trip around Bratislava. The city is so small that you can walk to all the main attraction in 10-15 min. We paid for one of those, €30 for 3 of us. It's not interesting or informative. Too slow, we abandon it in the Bratislava Castle, just to find out that Castle was 10 min walk down the hill to the centre. A great waste of money that was.

5.Bratislava is known for its statues. If you want to see them all, make a list and put them in google map. Otherwise, you just will spend more time than you should and annoy the rest of the party you are with. I only find a few of them, before my other half and my daughter started to moan at me, that unless I know where I am going, they are out.
