Tips on travel to Algarve
1. Fly from your local airport
Fly from your local airport. Ticket price a little higher, then let say from London airports, but in the long run, you will save the money. Petrol, airport parking and of course, time. Get a lift from your family or friends if you can. We had a ride from my husband, so it saved us at least £200 compare to flight from any London airports.

2. Rent a car
Renting a car, which set us back £39 for a week (£9.75 p/p for the whole week), give us a chance to explore the place and not depend on expensive organised trips or public transport. A cheapest half-day trip will cost at list €30 for an adult. And you limited in time, get stuck listening to the enthusiastic person spout on about the place you might not even like. I prefer to go at my own speed if the place is boring, I don't need to wait for the whole bunch of people to come back. Just hop in the car and go somewhere else.

3. Don't use toll roads
To use toll roads you need to pay €30 to activate a toll meter on the car, and you need to pay for a road itself, so we just avoided them.

4. Holiday in off-season
Going in the off-season gives you an opportunity to book a good hotel on the cheap. In summer we would pay the same price for 2* self-catering what we paid in April for 5* with food and drinks included.
We booked a one-bedroom apartment with a balcony. In the evening kids was watching TV, playing or asleep, while us, groan ups was on the balcony enjoying a wine we bought in the local supermarket. This is not an only money-saving tip, but also saved us from listening: "When we are going to our room" every 5 mins.
Having breakfast and dinner included, allowing us to keep our budget low. I managed to stick to €40 a day, including lunches  and all activities.

5. Share your food
Size of pizzas in cafes in the Algarve is huge, so you can easily have one between 2 or 3 people. Tapas great way to try a few local dishes if you are willing to buy a few and share them. Pasta dishes also generous size, big enough for my daughter and myself to share. Ask for an extra plate and don't be shy. This is your money and your saving, you worked hard for it.
