Weymouth Nothe Gardens

For many people the lockdown is not only a worrying time for family, jobs and what the future holds but also the things we call holidays. We all love to go away and explore the world. Unfortunately at the moment it's not possible due to the pandemic and my cruise was cancelled. One week staying at home has allowed me to explore more local places and of course my lovely home of Weymouth & Portland. When you are in a holiday mood you look at your town through different eyes. Luckily the weather is excellent at the moment and you don’t want to waste any of the sunshine.

Positioned on the Nothe Peninsula overlooking both Weymouth and Portland harbours, Weymouth Nothe Gardens are the perfect place for a day out. You can wander through mature, tree-lined winding paths full of squirrels and birds and stroll out into spacious grassed areas. The walk is lovely, the views are breathtaking and I can't recommend it highly enough.

Nothe Gardens is also the home to Nothe Fort, built in 1872 to protect the coast of Portland Harbour from French invasion and today it's a museum telling the story of Victorian and World War Two soldiers. Nothe Fort is one of the best preserved forts of its kind with the stunning views of the Jurassic Coast. There are also picnic areas. Unfortunately the Fort is closed at the moment, but hopfully not for long.

Take your picnic with you and enjoy the sunshine with your family or friends.
You don't have to jet off around the world to experience that holiday feeling.
